What Does FM Approved Mean?

Intrinsically Safe Factory Mutual (FM) Approval labels are attached to the radio to identify the unit as being tested to both US and Canada intrinsically safe standards for specified hazardous atmospheres. The Approval label specifies the hazardous Class/Division/Group along with the battery part number.

The hazardous location ratings are divided into Class, Division, and Group to indicate the existence of flammable gases or vapors, ignitable dust, fibers, or filings under normal or unlikely conditions of operation.
